About
Twenty years welding, now writing the software
I spent twenty years welding. I am a software engineer now, and RigTicket is what I wanted on the truck the whole time: a way to get the ticket written, signed and invoiced before the evening is gone.
The business behind it is Fusion Fab Apps, in Oklahoma. Write to the support address and I am who answers.
What it covers
Field tickets and invoicing for 1099 hands who bill their time, their rig and their per diem as separate things: rig welders, wind turbine techs, hot shot drivers. You fill out the ticket on your phone where the work happened, get it signed on the lease, and the invoice comes off the back of it.
It covers the stretch between finishing a job and getting paid for it. That is the part that eats your evening.
It works without signal
The work happens where there is no signal, and the ticket still has to get written.
So the app writes everything to your phone first and syncs when it finds a connection. Open it in a dead zone, start a ticket, take photos of the weld, get a signature, close the truck door and drive home. It uploads itself when you hit town.
Put your phone in airplane mode and write a ticket. That is the first thing I test on every release, and it is what I would want proven before trusting any app out here.
Labor, rig and per diem stay apart
Your time, the use of a truck and a machine you bought and maintain, and being away from your own bed are three different kinds of money. Keeping them apart on the ticket keeps them apart on the invoice, and keeps them apart in the records your preparer asks for at the end of the year.
They stay separate lines the whole way through. It costs you nothing at the time and it answers the question later.
The free tools stay free
The rate board, the pay calculator, the per diem lookup and the open for work board are open to anybody. Walk up and use them. Knowing what the going rate is should be free, and a trade where everyone keeps quiet about money is a trade where everyone gets underpaid.
What it costs
Free covers 3 tickets and 1 invoice a month, which is enough to find out whether it suits how you work. Pro is $9.99 a month or $79 a year and takes the limits off. You pay that and that is all of it; the whole price list fits on one page.
Where I stand
- Your records are yours. Export everything, any time, in formats another program can read.
- Your rates build the rate board, anonymously. Figures are pooled with enough people behind each number that it points at nobody, and Settings has a switch to leave the pool. The privacy policy spells out exactly what is shared.
- 30 days to change your mind. Ask and you get the money back.
- Cancel in the app. One button.
Small enough to answer
Every message reaches me directly. A bug you report gets looked at the same day. If something in the ticket flow is wrong for how your trade bills, say so and there is a real chance the app changes, because the person reading it is the person who writes it.
The free tier is there so you can run a couple of real tickets through it before you decide anything.
